Tips on how to have a Green Wedding...

Recently, I was flipping through an issue of Bridal Confidential, a London/St.Thomas bridal magazine. Bridal Confidential I came across an interesting article about how to plan a green wedding..not so much in a green colour scheme, but rather, an environmentally-friendly one! :D Here a few tips I discovered and thought I might share! Then you will see some pics I took of a wedding I shot a few short weeks ago, Jenny & Thomas', who I feel made some cool wedding choices that reflect what I'm about to discuss!

Tip #1 - reduce your fuel consumption, as well as your guests' fuel consumption by choosing ceremony and reception venues that are close in proximity. Book guests into the same place as your reception venue or as nearby as possible to it.

Tip #2 - Use local vendors and facilities. Not only will you have to drive less, but your wedding vendors, caterers, florists etc. etc. etc. will have less of drive as well. Again, limiting gas consumption.

Tip #3 - Your wedding dinner can be made from entirely local foods. Also, your wedding flowers can be ones that are locally grown or ones that are seasonal at the time of your wedding.

Tip #4 - Instead of throwing rice or confetti, choose flower petals. Prettier in pictures too :D

Tip #5 - Ask whoever is responsible for clean up after your reception if they recycle. Request that they do so.

These tips are simple and easy. Hope it helps and gives you a few ideas to implement when planning your day.

Finally, just want to share some pics I took from Jenny & Thomas' wedding which ties in with the whole environmental theme! Jenny created her own bouquets - they were beautiful and yet simple, and she used local, seasonal wildflowers. The piece de resistance though, were the invitations...I absolutely loved them! They were made with handmade, recycled paper. In the paper, there are seeds - plant the whole invitation with a layer of dirt in the springtime, water regularly and watch the blossoms bloom!! What a great idea! And such a beautiful, natural look to them as well!

Great ideas hey?? I thought so ;)

later!

  2. Hi Green Bride Guide!! The couple I photographed a few weeks ago, made them up themselves! I can get details as to where paper was purchased/made and the like, and you are welcome to use the photo I have here, provided you let me know first so I may watermark it for copyright purposes!
